A Naming Game - Tic, Tac and now, Toe

Long time sheltie clients of ours have now completed their next generation of agility stars. Their interest in agility started back in 1997 when they purchased their 1st sheltie from us, Shelamo English Rose (and yes, as her name implies, she left with them the day Lady Di passed away).

Their 2nd sheltie from us is "Tic", she's a small tri girl, that is just eating up the agility rings.

"Tic" and owner Jack in 2009

"Tac" their 2nd dog is a Papillion.

And now, they've completed their naming game with "Toe". He was over to have his ears redone, so I took the opportunity to capture a few shots of him. He's just coming up 16 wks.

He is sired by our BPIS Ch Shelamo's Riding The Sky HIC (who is also working in agility with owner Linda Howie) out of our girl Ch Shelamo That's Amore.

We're hoping he follows in his father's paw prints.

Puppies - Oh how they grow

The Whistler x Ruby litter are now just over 8 wks of age ... how time flies and what fun I've had with this litter. They've been such little dolls, taking every new adventure their grandma Linda (Whistler's owner) has thrown at them. With all she's done, there has to be some great agility stars in there.

Today it was lovely out, and, well, why not hang puppy laundry out to dry. Sure beats listening to them go plop, bang, thump in the dryer.

This is Ruby's boy at just over 8 wks of age ... he is so reminiscent of his father. A star we hope.
Here's the larger girl, she's now off to her new home and is called "Reno".

Have you ever tried taking pics of sleeping dogs while in the house? No sooner do you open a door and they're all up. Well, slowly, cm by cm I opened the patio door .. yes I got a few heads pop up a couple of times hearing the noise, but they went back to their snoozing, so I was able to capture these precious moments.
here's "Mighty Tot", the smallest girl who is likely to mature around 131/4-13 1/2.
Ruby has been the greatest mom, always wanting to be with them. She'll stand by their pen outside to be picked up and put in with them. Now that there is just the one left she's more than happy to be her best mate.
Oh, a bit of a stretch .... this afternoon lazing is just the thing ...
back to sleep ... life is so tough ... she'll be headed to her new home in a couple of days

Ruby Pups @ 5wks

Our BPIS Ch Shelamo's Riding The Sky (Whistler) x Ch Shelamo That's Amore (Ruby) pups are just over 5 wks now. Last week was their 1st time outside for a bit, (while I cleaned their pen) so I took a few pics before they got too warm.

Here's the larger girl ... 'let's see if I can tug this towel across the pen'!

The boy ... 'hey mom, it's a bit warm out here don't ya think?!'

Inside this weekend there was a change of toys ... a new surface to explore .. humm teeth are the best to check things out at this age!
A new tug toy .. let's see if I can remove it!
Maybe I can get it off my undoing the knot?!
The little girl taking a break in her chair ... and it really is HER chair!

New Champion, New Puppies

pups 3 days old
It's been busy here at our kennel since last Wednesday. Our girl CH Shelamo That's Amore decided she was going to have puppies, altho not until the wee hours of Thursday morning. In the end we have 2 girls and 1 boy, sired by our BPIS CH Shelamo's Riding The Sky HIC. The rest of Thursday was spent getting Breeze & Pumpkin ready for the Arnprior Dog Show. We were really feeling the lack of sleep by the end of the day.

An early morning rise and we were off to the dog show.

It was a successful weekend all the way around. We now have Ch Shelamo Flash Forward. She garnered 2 Group 3rds, 4 Best Puppy In Breeds, and 3 Best Puppy In Group.

In her 1st show on Friday - Group 3rd & BPIG

finishing her Championship in the afternoon's show with BOS & Best Puppy In Breed
Pumpkin in her 2nd time in the ring on Sunday came away with Reserve Winners Bitch

CSSA Magazine Advertisements

We will be showcasing our 3 new Champions this year, in the fall issue of the Canadian Shetland Sheepdog Assoc's magazine. This one of our BPIS Shelamo's Riding The Sky, owned by Linda Howie will be in colour.
Thanks to Pennylynn Woodruff for making this ad come to life. Next for Penny will be to deliver her litter by him mid September.

This ad below will be in B&W, of the two litter mates we finished. Ch Shelamo That's Amore and her brother Ch Shelamo Sugar Rush. "Rush" is already proven with a litter of 7, and we're happy to report all his testing is complete and is OK.

Caught In The Act

All weekend this past weekend at the OKC show, Penny helped me immensely in getting our 3 dogs ready and as a back-up in handling. On Saturday we did a switch up and she took Ruby in the Open Female class.

Ruby standing tall and in position with Penny

I had was now able to sit back watch the judging and take pics as he had some 6 dogs to go over.

It was a hot, humid day so most exhibitors were allowing their dogs to 'rest' in between their turn on the examination table, their down & back and go around. Yet, I noticed this judge gazing at the dogs even tho his focus, supposedly, was to be on the dog he was examining.
Penny's turn for the judge to go over Ruby on the table

Penny does the down and back, and Ruby stands and shows in full form.

Penny's holding Ruby in show mode as she's not been told to move.

Who's the judge looking at?

The judge each time would walk around behind the dogs, checking the rear stance I'm thinking ... now where is he looking? Not at Ruby, at the other females in the line-up!!! He would constantly do this, even when going over the dogs on the table.

Guess, as an exhibitor, when it's your turn to be fully examined, you expect the judge to have pretty much full attention on you ... that is your main time to shine and show the judge what's so good about your dog. Nope, this judge had his eyes aways moving.

Yes, I know the judge can do what he wants, in his ring, but hey, give me your undivided attention when it's my turn, PLEASERuby's still our "that's amore"!

BEST PUPPY IN SHOW

Today at the Ottawa Kennel Club Shelamo's Riding The Sky was Reserve Winners Dog and Best Puppy In Show!!! His owner Linda Howie is just over the moon. This is her 1st show dog, and what an awesome way for her to experience it. This is the 3rd dog we've bred that has won a BPIS. Rocky was the 1st, then his grandson Windsor, and now another grandson.

Judge Mr Edgar Bajona presenting the award.

Linda & Whistler

AND, our boy Shelamo Sugar Rush was Winners Dog for his first points, and sister Shelamo That's Amore was RWB. We just need that judge as she's sitting on 10pts.

Great day for us here at Shelamo. Tomorrow's another day, another judge, who knows what it will hold ....

First Local Dog Show Of The Year

This past weekend, Mary-Anne, Marylou and myself headed up to the 1st conformation show in our area, the Champlain Dog Show. It's close to a 2 hour drive and I don't think there was a quiet moment, as we chattered about everything and anything.

A Great Girls Weekend!

We showed our Shelamo That's Amore, "Ruby" all 3 days, and her litter brother Shelamo Sugar Rush just on the Friday. "Rush" is just now starting to coat up and learning the show ropes after the last 7 months doing obedience and having fun and Marylou's.

Our "Ruby" did us proud. Friday, we were off to a slow start, however we found ourselves taking Group 2nds both Saturday and Sunday for a total of 10 pts, in a very competitive field!

Shelamo That's Amore

On Saturday our judge was Mrs. Otero from Argentina (she gave our "Tyme" a RWB/BPIB in 2007), and on Sunday, Mr. Charlie Bett from Ontario.

We took a few moments on Saturday while the sun was out to capture these 2 now as adults.

In trying to get these pictures of Rush ... it was RUN Marylou RUN!
