In Memoriam - BPIS Am/Cdn Shelamo's Prospector

It has taken me a bit to compose this .....

January 30, 2000 - September 1, 2013

It was with a heavy heart that my dear "Rock Man" passed in my arms, at home in the wee hours of September 1, 2013.  Both Mike and my mom were here by his side.

He was born into litter of 6 on January 30, 2000 (3 would become Ch's), and little did we know how full he would make our lives.  From the beginning he was my heart dog, always being by my side, watching my every move, and becoming the face of Shelamo kennels from that point forward.

He was our Ambassador for our breed here, taking up residency on any new client's lap without asking questions!

There were so many 1st accomplishments he did for us here @ Shelamo .... so many hearts he touched along the way.

 "Rocky" finishing his Cdn Championship OKC show November 2000 from the Snr Puppy Class over 3 BIS Specials - what a day!

 After a Canadian wide competition he was chosen for the Purina Campaign of Champions (1 of 20).

He was the April boy for the Purina 2002 Calendar and had his picture on their nationwide Show Booth for many years.

"Rocky" winning in 2001 at just over a yr of age, against some top group breeds at the time, under respected judge Charles Bett, many of his group placements in limited showing

Thanks to Dr. Sherry Lee, FLA, for taking him under her wing and putting his American Championship on him in 13 shows in the competitive Easter US shows.

 Winning over many specials from the Veteran Class, Best of Opposite at the DC and SSA Spec 2010, respected breeder judge Barry Hastings

He also won the 1st Helen Lovett Memorial Trophy

In May 2013 his last outing, he went to an evening of a Girl Guides meeting to teach about dogs

Thank-you to the vets, Mark & Amanda, now at the Mississippi Animal Hospital for being there from the beginning of his life to the end.

You are sadly missed by Mike and I, dear Bud.  There will be a day we can play again.

Opal is 13 years old today - Happy Birthday Sweetie!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our foundation girl Shelamo's Party Pack ROMC. She turns THIRTEEN years old today - May 21, 1998. She has a long list of decedents that make our kennel what it is today. This list includes some very versatile dogs, doing all kinds of fun things with their owners.

Our 1st RESERVE BEST IN SHOW

What can we say, our lovely Multi Group Winning girl Ch Shelamo Sugar Shack took at Group 3rd on Saturday, and then topped off Sunday with a Reserve Best In Show from a lovely group line-up at the Belleville Dog Show.

She has been a dream girl from the beginning, obtaining her Championship with a Group 2nd under breeder/judge Denise Cornelsson and a Group 1st under breeder/judge Mark McMillan. She also became Champion #6 for her dam Shelamo's Party Pack ROMC. In the whelping box, she's produced a litter of 4, which 3 are now Champions.

In her last litter she produced our newest hopeful Shelamo Jumping Jelly Bean, who is now well on his way towards his championship, at just over 6 months of age. He also did us proud this past weekend garnering 6pts with 2 BOW/BOS/BPIB. He is co-owned with Jan & Steve Silcox.

Jelly Bean Is Growing Up

Our Shelamo Jumping Jelly Bean, co-owned with Jan & Steve is growing up! Took some pics of him yesterday after I'd groomed him all up. He's just over 6 months, and fits his name perfectly. Can't wait to get him out to some shows. He so reminds me of his dam Ch Shelamo Sugar Shack.

Two New Champions In Two Days

It was a gorgeous weekend for a dog show. Friday it was on the warm side (28C or so) but a lovely breeze that kept it comfortable. Today, the sun was out in the morning, the afternoon saw it overcast with the drizzle of rain holding off till very late in the afternoon.


Yesterday, needing only a judge, we finished our "Ruby" by going Best of Breed! She is now Ch Shelamo That's Amore. This makes champion #2 for her dam Ch Shelamo Sugar Shack from her 1st litter, and lucky #13 for her sire Ch Highledge Irish Cream. Her brother Shelamo Sugar Rush was Reserve Winners Dog.
"Rush" on the left, "Ruby" flaked out after her BOB win and being pulled for consideration in the Group ring.

Then today, with the expert grooming & handling by Pennylynn Woodruff, (Ruffleith Shelties)our BPIS Shelamo's Riding The Sky (just turned 1 this week) went Best of Winners and Best of Opposite Sex for a 5 pt win to finish his Championship. He is owned by Linda Howie.

This boy gives you his undivided attention and just loves to show! He's so much like his grandfather "Rocky".

5:30 am came quickly this morning, so it's been a very long day, I'm all pooped out .... I will work at posting the results and pictures taken of our 1st Canadian Shetland Sheepdog Assoc Regional Specialty tomorrow.

Kodak And Friends

What pups do after play ... ain't easy to sneak up on sleeping pups via patio door ... a slight move of the door and they are awake, wondering what's up. Needless to say these are shot through the glass.

Getting Show Ready

Today is brush, bath, blow dry, brush, trim, doing all the pre-show work on several dogs we're taking to the show this weekend.

Our "Rush" has been visiting at our good friend Marylou's, growing coat, doing obedience and just having fun running in the bush with her other 2 shelties. Knowing I was taking him from a 'raw' state he would be the 1st I started on. Once done, I took him out to the pen to shake off ... and captured a few pics of him to see just what I'd accomplished. Here are a few ... with a little playing with some of my new Photoshop brushes - I think he's maturing to a stunning boy.

Now we just have to wait and see whether his genes can produce any pups in our new litter with similar traits.

Easter Surprise

The Easter Bunny brought us a surprise in the late hours of Saturday night. Maple gave birth, by c-section to a 9.5 oz sable boy. Many thanks to our vet Mark and tech Chris who worked late into the night to bring him into the world.

As of this morn, Monday, everyone is doing just fine. It's been a few long days & nights of us watching and making sure everyone is OK.

For whatever reason, lack of # of pups to help push one another down the uterine horns in a timely manner, pups to big, just not getting into full labour early enough, Maple was discharging a bit of the 'greenish' substance which just about always says a pup & placenta have been detached from the uterine wall too long and time is becoming of the essence. If there is anyone thing of a female's delivery that scares me, this 'greenish' discharge does. Maple did go into pretty hard labour, we knew there was a heart beat from ultra sound, but he just wasn't 'getting thru' & over the last hurdle. A c-section seemed the best bet in order to get this pup out alive.

It is just another one of those things we breeders face, ensuring everyone is taken care of properly.
