Laureate L'Anais - In Memoriam

Another heart breaker in the last few months.

For all those of you that have followed Annie's journey with us after the passing of her owner almost a year ago, it is with a heavy heart that I have to say Annie joined Rod last week as a brighter star in the sky.

She unfortunately had a stroke.

I thank her breeder Kim Aston (Laureate) for being there during this difficult time and for the care & compassion the Mississippi Mills Animal hospital - Mark & Amanda and tech Ellen - who have known Annie from day one, for all they've done.

March 30, 2000 - October 25, 2013

May the reuniting of you two be the best thing ever!

She leaves behind her legacy here, thru her daughter, Shelamo Matta Hari and her daughter Ch Shelamo Tyme Descends sired by our BPIS Am/Cdn Ch Shelamo's Prospector (last two which we have said good-bye to).

In Memoriam - BPIS Am/Cdn Shelamo's Prospector

It has taken me a bit to compose this .....
January 30, 2000 - September 1, 2013

It was with a heavy heart that my dear "Rock Man" passed in my arms, at home in the wee hours of September 1, 2013.  Both Mike and my mom were here by his side.

He was born into litter of 6 on January 30, 2000 (3 would become Ch's), and little did we know how full he would make our lives.  From the beginning he was my heart dog, always being by my side, watching my every move, and becoming the face of Shelamo kennels from that point forward.
"Rocky" is on the left
He was our Ambassador for our breed here, taking up residency on any new client's lap without asking questions!

There were so many 1st accomplishments he did for us here @ Shelamo .... so many hearts he touched along the way.

So this is where we part, My Friend,
And you'll run on, around the bend.
Gone from sight, but not from mind,
new pleasures there you'll surely find.

I will go on; I'll find the strength,
Life measures quality, not its length.
One long embrace before you leave,
Share one last look, before I grieve.

There are others, that much is true,
But they be they, and they aren't you.
And I, fair, impartial, or so I thought,
Will remember well all you've taught.

Your place I'll hold, you will be missed,
The fur I stroked, the nose I kissed.
And as you journey to your final rest,
Take with you this...I loved you best.

-Jim Willis

A tribute will be done in two weeks on Sheltie Strut.

Thank-you to the vets, Mark & Amanda, now at the Mississippi Animal Hospital for being there from the beginning of his life to the end.
You are sadly missed by Mike and I, dear Bud.  There will be a day we can play again.

Nice Kingston Dog Show Weekend

Marylou and I attended the Kingston dog show this past weekend and had a great time.  Couldn't ask for better weather, even tho it threatened to rain on our parade Sunday afternoon.  Nope, it rained there a bit before, but then cloudy and the sun came out at the end.

It was nice to see a large entry of 19 shelties.  Numbers have been so low in our area for, at least, the last year.  We had as many females in competition as we have had in the whole breed.

Our girls did great!  Shelamo Bedazzle our 16 wk old puppy had fun competing Saturday & Sunday for Best Baby Puppy In Show.

Shelamo Rais'n The Bar came away with a 3 pt Winners Female on Saturday under judge Wendy Paquette.

"Brindy" did well too for her first time out, going Reserve Winners Female on Friday with Marylou at the end of the lead, under Colombia judge Mrs. Perez.

Tribute To A Very Thoughtul Man

I have been slow in blogging this as it's taken time to put the various pieces together.

It was mid November 2012, that a kind gentleman passed peacefully in his home with his beloved and faithful sheltie "Annie" by his side.  His life was rich in so many ways - golfing, loved Irish music, playing his tin-whistle, and enjoying, even on his last day reading at the local library with "Annie" by his side.

Rod with "Annie" last year
Rod had made several wishes clear, with one being, should he predecease his beloved girl "Annie", she was to be returned to the kennel he got her from.  We can't thank Rod enough for having that foresight and making his wishes clear.  We also thank those that cared for "Annie" during the few days until Rod's Executor was able to arrive and follow-up with finding us, as we'd moved since he'd had her (Kathy and Heather, thank-you).
Laureate L'Anais, 2005
"Annie" is known as Laureate L'Anais, and she came to us in 2001 on a co-ownership with the owner's of Laureate Kennels, Kim Aston and Peter Culumovic.  She lived most of her time with us, producing several litters, until her retirement, when Rod came to us in June of 2005 looking for another sheltie to live and enjoy his life with.

"Annie's" contribution to the sheltie world has proved significant.  Here is a list of some of her kids and decedents, with many more that have contributed to kennels around the world and graced the couches of others.

"Annie" has now been to the vet and as with most seniors this age is experiencing some medical issues.  We know for one her hearing has gone.  We (and Laureate) are dealing with them one at a time as we sort out her problems.

We thank those that have donated in Rod's name to date, for "Annie's" alma mater, for her continued care.  Please know the Executor will be kept informed.

We thank you Rod for all you have given to your love of shelties, and embraced the life you lived.

With this experience, I hope all of you with fur kids will be encouraged to make provisions for them.

Never Easy Saying Good Bye

"Tyme"
Dec 6, 2006 - January 26, 2012

It is with great sadness that we had to send our Ch Shelamo Tyme Descends, at such a young age, across the Rainbow Bridge.

In less than 5 days she went from a happy girl, pushing her food away for later, then with a bit it coming back up later, to yesterday interested but refusing food and a bit out of sorts. There were no other outward signs. Blood test were insignificant, xrays & ultrasound showed a light mass which the thought was maybe ovarian issues. Her litter of pups was almost 14 wks ago.

Surgery was scheduled for today, which we found a large mass cell tumor attached to her upper intestines & pancreas. There was also another one near the spine. No way was surgical removal possible and prognosis for any treatment was grave at best.

Hard as it was we didn't wake her up.

She leaves behind a great legacy ...

growing out are her 3 daughters, Mocha, Cocoa & Gem

"Tyme's" father BPIS Am/Cdn Ch Shelamo's Prospector

and her grandmother

are all still with us here

We will miss you dearly "Tyme Tyme".
Rest well, till we meet you at the Rainbow Bridge

Showing - Full of Laughs & Good Times

I'm tardy in putting this post up ... just one of those weeks.

It was a fun show, last weekend in Ste Foy, Quebec. Marylou and I went for a 3+ day excursion starting out late in the day. It was about a 5.5 hr drive, with the weather on the way down hot and humid. Through Montreal we came across a couple of construction zones, seeing these signs ... to us, it meant 'suck it in' ... tummy tucks that is, so we were hoping we'd have flat stomachs by the time we'd finished ... nope.
There were 2 shows on the Friday, with our MPBIS MPBISS Ch Shelamo Flash Forward garnering another Best Puppy In Group and a Grp 3rd under judge E. Wild. Her sister Shelamo Deja Vu was Reserve Winners Bitch. In the afternoon show "Breeze" won another Best of Breed/Best Puppy.

Best Puppy in Group Presentation

Saturday, it was again very hot and humid ... guess pushing 37C or so. I got asked in the morning by Jodie of Treasure Coast, if one of our girls could be used for juniors for their son Justin. I knew "Breeze" would be a breeze (ha, ha) at that! I was proud of how my girl, still a puppy, handled herself with a total stranger, someone she'd only met an hour or so before juniors.
Justin & "Breeze" in his classes' line-up.
She never let up showing for him.
On our previous trip past Quebec City we'd eyed the Montmorency Falls Park, so we decided to head there Saturday after the show, maybe even get some lovely pics of the girls there.

On our way there, this is what we followed ....
how's that for an escort?!
Well, much to our surprise there was a BIG event going on - a fireworks display! There were cops, barricades, parking restrictions, parking attendants, no parking signs on the upper town area .... so after driving around to try and find, even a spot to view them from above we gave up. The weird thing was, that in our travels around the streets above, and OH MY, were there some beautiful homes overlooking the river ... didn't we see this Official Pace car (or one just like it) sitting in a driveway! The owners of the home could be seen sitting out in their enclosed patio, so I dared not take a pic.
This was our set up, nice and dry, mostly shaded for the day, right next to the obedience/rally rings. So we got to watch a lot of exhibitors go thru their paces. There was one young girl, just 9 yrs old with her Cavalier who achieved 2 qualifying legs for her Pre Novice. She got a great round of applause .... I still remember those days myself. Sunday, it was a totally different story ... it rained, and rained. Luckily it was just a drizzle when we were packing up, however it still meant stuff had to be dried out on Monday.

Another show trip over with, washing done, equipment dried out.
"Breeze" in the Juniors ring

After this weekend, she is now ranked #2 Sheltie Puppy (2 BPIS, 9 BPIG) and #9th overall Sheltie
We're proud of this girl's accomplishments.
(according to Best Dog In Canada & Canuck Dogs)
