Season's Greetings

All of us here, the furkids included, wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, and the Best in the New Year.

May SheltiePaws be good to all of you.

Thanks to Penny Woodruff for creating this winter image of our lovely RBIS Ch Shelamo Sugar Shack and her son Shelamo Jumping Jelly Bean, to be featured on The Sheltie Strutt Holiday Edition. We're proud to be part of this Canadian fund raising effort for our Sheltie National in 2011.

Hoping your furkids have fun in our upcoming Winter Wonderland.

Chinook's 2 girls playing with chewies in the 1st fluffy snow fall in early December. And when it's too cold, a fun romp in the kitchen with their tunnel wears them out, at least that's the hope :)

January 1st & 2nd 2010 Adventures

We had an absolutely gorgeous New Year's Day evening. The temp was just below zero, with fluffy snow flakes falling. The trees with their dusting of snow made it SO beautiful. We also had a special visitor, Cheryl Pike of Maclaren shelties drove up to see the litter of Vista pups that are at Margaret Pratt's, Sharrow shelties. Cheryl presently has the sire, BISS Am/Cdn Ch Barwoods Jana JFK.But, THEN overnite, in less than 8 hrs, .... Boy did we go into a DEEP FREEZE with 30 km/hr winds! It went down to -28C with the windchill, crisping the air, frosting the vehicle windows, blowing snow over the roads, just a real shock to the system.

Saturday, Cheryl & I went over to Margaret's in the morning to see the pups, which we figure 3 of the 6 are ones we'd like to watch closely as to how they grow over the next several weeks.

Here's a picture Cheryl took of the 3 @ just under 6 wks of age l-r boy, girl, girl. Over all we are very pleased with the consistency of the litter.

It was a nice visit, I enjoyed the 'outside of Ottawa' doggie chit chat :)

For adventure in the afternoon Mike and I headed about 15 mins down the road to watch our nephew Alexander play at a hockey tournament. He plays goalie for his team, the Samurais.

They shoot!!! No goal. YEAH!!!!
Another try ... Alexander stops the puck!
AHHH ... guys did you see where that one went? (it's that black dot in the blue crease)
TG, no player was there to tap in for a goal. Hey defense guys where were you???
Watch that 5-hole Alexander!

Unfortunately they lost this game.
hummm better stop now ... it's time to do last potty run.

Post Ice Storm Beauty

Just wanted to share some of the pictures I took 2 days after our ice storm. The skies cleared, we had a slightly lower than freezing drop in temperature, plus there was a light dusting of snow over night.
The existing water/ice froze, then the trees got a dusting of snow. This is one of our lawn shrubs all sparklie.By noon the sun was strong enough that where it hit it was melting the ice/snow. Those trees more heavily hit were like white lights as they shone through the sun.

Looking way up, here's one of our taller trees by our driveway. The trees that were in the shade were keeping their frosty, frozen icicle look.

We then went into a deep freeze, temperatures down around -20C, -27C with the windchill. Today it is starting to moderate with temps going just above 0C this weekend.
It's been a hard time for the dogs as their time outside was limited with the paw freezing temps.

Shades of the Ice Storm In January 1998

Yesterday, mid afternoon to late evening, Mike and I spent it with the fire place going to heat the house, candles to light our way, and flashlights in hand. We got hit with an ice storm that caused our power to go out for, guess well over 5 hours. Mike tried to keep the deck cleared so the 'house mice' could go out safely, but needless to say the dogs didn't spend much time outside.
The temperature was just such that as the rain fell it was freezing in some spots, others creating ice and thawing in others. This was a big icicle hanging down the back of our house.
The deck seating with its own Christmas display.
Today, Monday I went over to my sisters ... here's the view of part of our road. A frosty, icy, still cloudy day. The main roads were fine for driving as the temp wasn't that low. The sun has been trying to peek out, but not yet in our part of town.
The shrubs along the road with their own twinkle.
The pine trees laden with ice on their branches.

Inside, my Bouganvillia still wants to bloom!

Our driveway, well the end has now been plowed of its foot high mound of ice & snow that the main street plow left, the rest will have to wait till it freezes or thaws or we'll loose a ton of gravel.
